• e.p.t^® and e.p.t Certainty^® home pregnancy tests are urine-based home pregnancy tests that work by detecting levels of hCG (human Chorionic Gonadotriopin), a hormone produced by pregnant women.


• The e.p.t^® Plus/Minus home pregnancy test can detect hCG in a woman’s urine as early as 4 days before her expected period. However, it is recommended to wait until the first day of her expected period or any day thereafter to achieve accurate results.

• Accurate results : e.p.t^® Plus/Minus test and e.p.t Certainty^® are over 99 percent accurate in laboratory tests at detecting typical hCG hormone levels (which vary by person).


• Easy-to-read results : Depending on the product chosen, there are two options for easy-to-read results. The e.p.t^® Plus/Minus test uses a plus (pregnant) or minus (not pregnant) reading. e.p.t Certainty^® uses an unmistakable “ Pregnant” or “ Not Pregnant” digital reading.


• Fast results : The e.p.t^® Plus/Minus test can be used any time of day on the first day of a woman’s expected period, and results can be read in two minutes. e.p.t Certainty^® can also be used any time of day, from the first day of a woman’s expected period, and results are displayed in three minutes.


• Easy-to Use : For the e.p.t^® Plus/Minus test, simply remove cap, and place absorbent tip in urine stream for 5-7 seconds. To assemble the e.p.t Certainty^® pregnancy test, locate and line up the purple arrows on the test stick and holder and insert the test stick into the holder until it clicks into place. Then place in urine stream for 5-7 seconds.

Testing Accurately

• According to the American Pregnancy Association, “the best time to test for pregnancy occurs at the expected date of your next menstrual flow.” The organization advises that tests taken before that date are “less reliable.”


• Home pregnancy tests taken before the first day of an expected period, when the levels of the hCG hormone may be too low to be detected, can result in a false negative response for nearly one-third (30 percent) of pregnant women.


• Some pregnant women may not have detectable amounts of pregnancy hormone in their urine on the first day of the expected period or may have miscalculated the first day of their period.


• Four out of five (80 percent) of ob/gyns surveyed advise patients that home pregnancy tests taken before the first day of their expected period are not as accurate as those taken on or after that day.

Factors That Affect Accuracy

• Certain drugs which contain hCG or are used in combination with hCG and rare medical conditions may alter results.


• Using e.p.t^® home pregnancy tests within 8 weeks of giving birth or having a miscarriage may cause a false positive result. The test may detect hCG still in the system from a previous pregnancy.


• If a woman suspects the result may be incorrect or has difficulty reading it, she should repeat the test after 3-7 days with a new e.p.t^® test.


• If a woman repeats the test and continues to get an unexpected result, she should contact her doctor.
